Solveig's interest in marbling began in the library of
Stanford University in California. She had gone to live
there as a bride with Humphrey who had been appointed
art director of the University Press. A wonderful collection
of Cobden Sanderson bindings inspired her. However, it
was not until they returned to England that she actually
began to marble. As the family increased with the birth of
four daughters working from home became imperative.

Solveig and Humphrey both work from workshops in the
barns. Humphrey is a typographic designer and currently
writing a memoir of his father Reynolds Stone, the distin-
guished wood engraver.
